The river otter is a member of the weasel family and is equally versatile in the water or on land. The otter makes it's burrow close to the water's edge in rivers, lakes, swamps, coastal shorelines or tidal flats. Their dens have many tunnel openings, one of which generally allows the otter to enter and exit the body of water.
